Inter Milan confident in sealing Giroud

According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Inter Milan are confident of completing the signing of Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud in the next few days. The popular Frenchman has been linked with a couple of different clubs over the last few weeks, with it becoming crystal clear that Chelsea would not be featuring him in a consistent role moving forward.

Giroud has had an incredibly successful career up to this point both domestically and internationally, but at this point, it definitely seems like the next move in his career could be the last one – or, at the very least, the final ‘big’ transfer before he decides to hang them up for good.

He’s spent a while now trying to battle the odds and fight his way back into the mix with the Blues, but it seem…

Typical of me, right? – Kompany to miss testimonial with injury

Vincent Kompany has revealed he will not play in his own Manchester City testimonial due to a hamstring injury.

Former City captain Kompany is returning to the Etihad Stadium for the first time since his departure at the end of last season, yet he will not feature in the match between Manchester City Legends and a Premier League All-Stars XI.

The 33-year-old, who has endured a tough start to life as Anderlecht player-coach, has not featured since hobbling out of a 1-0 defeat to Genk on August 23.

Kompany, who repeatedly suffered with injuries at City, last playing more than 30 Premier League games in a season in 2011-12, announced his absence from Wednesday s fixture in good humour.

Unfortunately I won t be starting or playing, the Belgian told a news co…

Dijon 2-1 Paris Saint-Germain: Mbappe on target but lethargic leaders stunned on the road

Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at struggling Dijon in Friday s clash at Stade Gaston Gerard.

The home side had never previously beaten PSG in eight top-flight attempts and it appeared the game would run true to form when they found themselves a goal down through Kylian Mbappe s clinical strike.

But Thomas Tuchel s side were guilty of coasting when in front and were made to pay by strikes from Mounir Chouiar and Jhonder Cadiz either side of half-time.

PSG twice hit the frame of the goal and missed a glut of late chances as they went in search of a leveller that did not arrive, meaning just a third loss of the season in all competitions.

Despite an 18-point deficit between the teams prior to kick-off, bottom club Dijon st…

Conte: Tottenham appointed me as a signal of intent for Kane

Antonio Conte labelled his Tottenham appointment as a signal of intent to their competitors and to Harry Kane.

Kane endured a tough start to the 2021-22 campaign, scoring just one goal in his first 13 league games after seemingly having his head turned amid interest from Pep Guardiola s Manchester City.

Spurs, without their talisman Kane firing, suffered in the league and were ninth after five top-flight losses in seven games before the former Inter head coach took charge in the wake of Nuno Espirito Santo s sacking.

They have since appeared revitalised under Conte, who set and then extended a club record as he remains unbeaten in his opening eight league games.

It is a run which has propelled Tottenham to sixth, two points behind fourth-placed rivals Ar…

Bournemouth 0-3 Southampton: Redmond brace secures FA Cup semi-final berth

Southampton booked their place in the FA Cup semi-finals after a 3-0 win over second tier Bournemouth on Saturday thanks to a brace from Nathan Redmond.

The Premier League side saw off a brief spell of Bournemouth first-half pressure and took the lead when Moussa Djenepo finished coolly after being found by Redmond.

Redmond then struck either side of half-time as he first scored a fine individual goal and then calmly stroked in a rebound after the ball had bounced to him off the post.

Southampton s victory over the Championship outfit ensured they progressed to the semi-finals of the competition for the second time in 18 seasons, having last done so in 2017-18.

Saints thought they had taken the lead early on when Cameron Carter-Vickers put through his own…

I´m happy at Manchester United – Mourinho dismisses Real Madrid reports

Jose Mourinho has dismissed reports he could be in line for a sensational return to Real Madrid, insisting he wants to stay at Old Trafford beyond his current deal, which ends in 2020.

Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui is under increasing pressure after five games without a win in all competitions, with a 2-1 defeat to Levante on Saturday leaving Los Blancos seventh in LaLiga.

Mourinho, who managed the club between 2010-2013, is adamant that he has no interest in taking over should the former Spain boss be sacked, however, and is happy at United.

Speaking at his media conference ahead of Tuesday s Champions League clash with Juventus, Mourinho – who s future at United has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks – said: I m happy here. I m happy to s…

Northern Ireland veteran Jonny Evans has no intention of walking away

Jonny Evans has insisted he wants to keep playing for Northern Ireland for as long as he remains a professional footballer.

Evans is in line to captain his country against Denmark on Friday night, earning his 101st cap at the age of 35.

After an injury-ravaged season which ended in the disappointment of relegation with Leicester, Evans is out of contract at the King Power this summer but the club said they were in talks over a new deal.

Jonny Evans on the boss: He s been a constant throughout my career and we re all delighted to have him back in again

Given the amount of time he has missed, Evans would have been forgiven for considering international retirement after reaching his century of caps in Greece…

Zidane: I have no problems with spectacular Bale

Gareth Bale s return to Tottenham is yet to be finalised, according to Zinedine Zidane, who hailed the Wales international s spectacular contribution to Real Madrid.

Bale s loan move to Tottenham, who he left to join Madrid in 2013, is expected to be confirmed after he flew to London on Friday and was seen entering the Premier League club s training ground.

The 31-year-old was an increasingly marginalised figure under Zidane as Madrid won LaLiga last season, cutting quite the contrast to his goalscoring turns in the 2014 and 2018 Champions League finals.

An apparent breakdown in relations with his coach has been accepted as the main reason for Bale seeking an exit from the Spanish capital but, speaking ahead of the start of his side s LaLiga defence at Real Soci…

BATE 1 Arsenal 0: Dragun fires as Lacazette sees red

Arsenal have work to do if they are to reach the last 16 of the Europa League after slipping to a surprise 1-0 first-leg defeat to BATE in Belarus.

Unai Emery s side were caught cold in sub-zero temperatures on the stroke of half-time, Stanislav Dragun s header ending their run of five successive clean sheets in the competition.

Alexandre Lacazette had a potential equaliser ruled out for offside before he was shown a straight red card for throwing an elbow at Aleksandar Filipovic in the closing minutes.

Even when they had 11 men, the Premier League side struggled to capitalise on their territorial dominance, leaving them with a deficit to overturn in the return fixture next Thursday.

Benzema´s ´pride and joy´ at ending long France wait

Karim Benzema felt everyone in France was waiting for his return to the international scoresheet after his brace in the 2-2 Euro 2020 draw with holders Portugal.

The world champions sealed top spot as the only undefeated team in Group F after a pulsating encounter in Budapest, where a pair of Cristiano Ronaldo penalties saw the five-time Ballon d Or winner draw level with Ali Daei as the leading international goalscorer of all time on 109.

Benzema s lengthy exile from France duty means he is nowhere near such dizzying individual numbers, but he levelled from the spot before half-time at the Puskas Arena.

That was goal 28 for Les Bleus, coming almost six years after 27 arrived as part of a double in an October 2015 friendly against Armenia.

The wait for nu…
