Chelsea v Manchester City: Navas calls for focus after Champions League euphoria

Jesus Navas has called on Manchester City to forget the Champions League and focus fully on Saturday s Premier League trip to Chelsea.

City reached their maiden Champions League semi-final with a thrilling 3-2 aggregate win over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, a triumph sealed by 1-0 second-leg victory at the Etihad Stadium.

Kevin De Bruyne s stunning 76th-minute strike sparked delirious celebrations from City players and fans alike, with Manuel Pellegrini s team now looking forward to Friday s last-four draw that will see them paired with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid.

However, City still have work to do if they are to take their seat at European football s top table next season by virtue of finishing in the Premier League s top four.

Lewandowski: Champions League glory the perfect farewell for Guardiola

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski wants to give Pep Guardiola the perfect send-off by winning the Champions League.

Guardiola who will leave Bayern for Manchester City at the end of the season  has guided FCB to back-to-back Bundesliga titles since joining the club in 2013 and is on track to make it three in a row this campaign.

Champions League success has evaded him so far with the Bavarians, though, and Lewandowski is desperate for European glory this season.

It would be amazing if we could bid farewell to Guardiola by winning the Champions League, it would be the icing on the cake after all the time we ve had together at Bayern. I hope it happens, Lewandowski told the official UEFA website ahead of the first leg of their semi-final tie with Atletico…

Bayern boss Flick planning to play Thiago and Alaba

Hansi Flick insists he will plan to use Thiago Alcantara and David Alaba so long as they remain Bayern Munich players.

Thiago and Alaba starred in Bayern s treble-winning campaign last season but have each been linked with moves away from the Allianz Arena.

Both men are out of contract next June, with Liverpool heavily touted as Thiago s most likely suitors.

Speaking on Wednesday at Bayern s treble presentation, Flick insisted he was relaxed about their circumstances.

“The situation is not that easy, the head coach told reporters.

As long as they are in the squad, I plan with both of them.

Bayern s bid for a ninth consecutive Bundesliga title begins at home to Schalke next Friday.

Flick confirmed Ivan Perisic, Philippe Coutinho…

Title race all but over as City fail to respond to Liverpool statement

Throughout the first half of the 2019-20 Premier League season, the contrast between the performances of Liverpool and Manchester City has been stark.

Unbeaten and unbelievably consistent, Liverpool have been largely infallible as they have taken their form from last season s incredible title race between the two same sides to the next level. The sole blemish on the Reds domestic season to this point is a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

City, meanwhile, have slogged through a campaign in which injuries have exposed a lack of depth at the back and left them to struggle against inferior opposition on several occasions.

Their defeat at Anfield, a stadium where City have not won since 2003, in November was no surprise given their desperate record at…

Leaders Inter Milan held by reigning champions Napoli

Runaway Serie A leaders Inter Milan were held to a 1-1 draw by reigning champions Napoli at the San Siro.

It is the first time Simone Inzaghi’s side have dropped points in 2024 as Juan Jesus’ late goal against his former club cancelled out Matteo Darmian’s opener to secure a point for Napoli.

It has been a week to forget for Inter, who were knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid in midweek, during what is a fine domestic league campaign.

It ends in a draw.

Marcus Thuram had the first clear-cut chance of the game but Jesus was on hand to make the block.

Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret then somehow kept the score level with a quick-fire double save, pushing away a Darmian header…

Borussia Monchengladbach 5-0 Bayern Munich: Bundesliga leaders suffer DFB-Pokal drubbing

Ramy Bensebaini and Breel Embolo scored doubles as Borussia Monchengladbach unceremoniously dumped Bayern Munich out of the DFB-Pokal with a stunning 5-0 victory.

It was a horror show for shambolic Bayern at Borussia-Park on Wednesday as the Bundesliga leaders were put to the sword, conceding three times in the opening 21 minutes.

Bensebaini struck twice after Kouadio Kone opened the scoring with his first goal for Die Fohlen, with Bayern at sixes and sevens as head coach Julian Nagelsmann watched on at home as he isolates after testing positive for coronavirus.

Embolo helped himself to a quickfire brace early in the second half to help Gladbach cruise into the third round, knocking Bayern out at the same stage they were sensationally beaten by Holstei…
