Ghana will be hoping to keep their hopes of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup alive when they travel to face Sudan on Friday.
James Kwesi Appiah s men sit second in Group D of the second
round of qualification, and can keep up the pressure on group leaders Zambia
with a win as they try and progress to the third and final round of CAF
qualification for the 2014 tournament in Brazil.
The visitors will be confident of securing victory against a
side they comfortably dispatched in their last qualifier back in March.
Ghana ran out 4-0 winners on that occasion, Asamoah Gyan,
Wakaso Mubarak, Abdul Waris and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu finding the net as
Appiah s side cruised to victory.
Gyan and Mubarak have both been prolific for Ghana in recent
times, and the 2010 FIFA World Cup quarter-finalists will hope that the pair
can maintain their form and boost their chances of performing on the
world stage again next year.
Espanyol midfielder Wakaso has netted four goals in his last
five internationals for Ghana, while former Sunderland striker Gyan has the most
goals of any player in the current squad, having found the net 32 times so far
in his international career.
Milan s Sulley Muntari and Juventus Kwadwo Asamoah will
also be looking to have an impact, and Ghana will expect to have for too much
for last-placed Sudan, who have not won an international match since their 1-0
success over Somalia back in November 2012.
Mohamed Abdalla s men have yet to score a goal in this round
of qualifying and, although they recent kept a clean sheet in a friendly with
Group C challengers Tanzania, their defence is likely to face a much sterner
test against a team which narrowly missed out on a place in the final of the
African Cup of Nations earlier in the year.
